UNAIR NEWS – Delegation of the Semi Autonomous Body (BSO) International Law Student Association (ILSA) Faculty of Law, 东京热 and University of Indonesia (UI) delegation will represent Indonesia in the Philip C. Jessup moot court competition in Washington DC, USA, on 1-7 April 2018.
It was decided after both universities came on top of other 24 other delegations from all universities in Indonesia through a competition organized by the Indonesian Society of International Law (ISIL) at Udayana University, Denpasar, Bali, some time ago.聽UNAIR delegation won Runner Up and UI won the first place.
“Philip C. Jessup is the oldest international moot-court competition in the world.聽Every year there is a national round where the two best teams will represent the country to compete in the international round, “said Dewi Santoso as the head of the delegation.
The delegates representing ILSA in this competition were Dewi Santoso (2015) oralist as the head of delegation, Bima Adhijoso (2015) oralist, Zulfikar Winarno (2015) oralist, Regine Wiranata (2016) oralist, and Mutiara Kasih (2014) as team advisor.聽In addition to the core team, there are also聽researchers,聽Megawati Widjaja (2016), Maya Assegaf (2015), Shofy Suma (2016), and Thesalonica (2017).
In the preliminary round, UNAIR delegates were against four different teams.聽In the quarter round was against Atmajaya University Jakarta, in the semi-finals was against Padjajaran University, and in the final round was against the University of Indonesia.
“This year’s material is quite varied and very challenging such as the legitimacy of arbitration verdict, ship arrest, war in the sea, and disarmament obligations in international law, “said the sixth semester student.
Previously, for six months the delegates prepared everything to support their performance for the competition, from memorial file development to聽oral pleading聽presentation聽.
Before the competition, the ILSA BSO delegation faced obstacle regarding the cost.聽It was quite costly, from the cost of registration until departure.聽But it produced satisfactory results by winning the title Runner Up.
“We are very happy and grateful.聽We never thought about this. After 14 years we can finally achieve this position and the opportunity to represent Indonesia in the International round, “added Dewi.聽(*)
