UNAIR NEWS – Rector of ������ Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih with the Governor of East Java Soekarwo signed a Memorandum of Understanding  in Education field. The collaboration was the commitment of government and university to improve quality in Education and Research.

Besides UNAIR, there were nine other universities in East Java involved in the collaboration. The signing session in Grahadi Building, Wednesday, September 27 was witnessed by West Australian Minister of Asian Engagement. It is mutual commitment of two governments as sister province.

“First, it’s a collaboration at provincial level between East Java and the State of West Australia in Education. We have discussed about it for the last two years. Finally, not only with UNAIR but also all state universities in East Java will collaborate with universities in West Australia,” said Prof. Nasih.

The collaboration will be established in education, academic mobility and research publications. According to Nasih, some topic will be the priority of the collaboration such as inclusive education for people with disability.

“We are preparing some scholarship for our young lectures, especially for inclusive education program followed by Valina Khiarin Nisa,” he added.

Valina is a young lecturer of Faculty of Psychology who will take her master degree in West Australian university. The woman is the only one who receives a master study scholarship from the Australian government. She will study further about the deaf education.

Besides education, UNAIR will also conduct joint research with partner university in some subjects of research such as food, health and environment.

“We focus on various subjects. In the field of food, there’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to develop and improve as Australia has advanced in the field of food, protein and meat.  In health, UNAIR has established researches together through Australia-Indonesia Centre on climate change, environment and health. We all work towards those improvement with our partners from West Australia,” said Rector.

Bill Johnston said that there are more than 900 Indonesian students studying in Australia. He hoped that the collaboration of both provinces will not be limited to Education but also in Culture.

“I expect more collaborations in Culture and Diversity. According to me, we can be rich and strong from the diversity,” said Bill Johnston.
