UNAIR NEWS – Lecturers of ¶«¾©ÈÈ made a visit to Peneleh, Surabaya, last Friday, April 20. They were a group of UNAIR pre-assigned lecturer training participants. This activity is part of the training outside the classroom as a follow-up training in the classroom which was held 3-12 April 2018.

In the event titled Development of °­²¹³¾±è³Ü²Ô²µÌýHeritageÌý±Ê±ð²Ô±ð±ô±ð³ó Surabaya, the lecturers explore the potentials of the urban community based on their competences. The lecturers were from Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV), Faculty of Psychology (Fpsi), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), and Faculty of Law (FH).

The lecturers started the activity on Friday, April 20 from the Peneleh Urban Community Office. Furthermore, the lecturers visited several interesting points, such as HOS Tjokroaminoto’s House, Jamik Mosque, and the Dutch Cemetery. They also met a group of mothers who produce snacks special to Peneleh and discussed about the development of products they sell. After that, the lecturers also inspected the Puskesmas and Peneleh reading park to learn the condition in the area.

The series of agenda was the first step to explore and polish the area that is considered potential to be the native tourism village of Surabaya.

This activity is one of the innovative programs of lecturers of ¶«¾©ÈÈ. It is expected to encourage the lecturers to contribute directly to the community in accordance with their fields of science.

Dr. Hary Wahyudi, S.H., M.Si., a counselor from the East Java Training Agency, said that this activity is not only aimed at fulfilling pre-duty training obligations, but also to grow the nationalism of lecturers through the introduction of Kampung Peneleh.

After this activity, the lecturers are expected to be able to publish the existence of Peneleh. Furthermore, they are also expected to invite students to recognize, develop, and appreciate the efforts of people around the Peneleh urban community who have maintained the original culture of Surabaya. (*)
