UNAIR NEWS – Preparing capable human resources to compete in the industrial revolution era 4.0, held a guest lecture discussing 21st century curriculum. The event held on Friday, September 21 discussed the framework of developing higher education curriculum, to prepare Indonesian human resources in 2045 when Indonesian Independence reaches a century.
This guest lecture presented three speakers, Prof Nancy Margarita Rehatta, dr., Sp.An., KK., KNA, (Faculty of Medicine UNAIR), Prof. Dr. Med Puruhito, dr., SpB (K) TKV (Faculty of Medicine UNAIR), and Prof Debra Si Mui Sim, MD., PhD. (University of Malaya).
According to a report published by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC), Indonesia will be the fifth strongest country in the world under China, America, India and Japan by 2030.聽In this regard, Prof. Puruhito revealed that universities must be able to prepare the human resources that can compete globally.
“We (universities, ed) must have multidisciplinary abilities.聽Basically, the ability to master information technology, “explained Prof. Ito.
The UNAIR Rector from 20001 to 2005 also said that the change in the concept of educational curricula began with聽general education. 聽Liberal arts, where all knowledge come in, made people become generalists.聽With that generalist basis, each of them will be a scholar who is basically the same.
In addition to聽liberal arts, the concept of education that must be applied to prepare human resources is the mastery of information technology (IT).聽For example, at the moment some disease detection devices are developed.聽So, how should doctors behave?聽Prof. Ito said, doctors must be able to read whether the medical devices are able to diagnose accurately or not.
“It means, when we become doctors, we don’t only read devices, but also patient behavior.聽Therefore, a doctor must also master technology and sociology, “said Prof. Ito.
Third, there is a need for聽resource share.聽Without聽resource share, continued Prof. Ito, universities are weak.聽Each person has power but they are not aware of it.聽For this reason, it is necessary to聽share the聽knowledge among scholars from various fields.
According to Prof. Ito, there are seven special skills needed in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era.聽The seven skills are聽critical thinking, people management, emotional intelligence, judgment, negotiation, cognitive flexibility, and聽knowledge production and management.
“That鈥檚 where we are heading.聽In the future, universities will become one: creating super scholar who can master many fields, with the same caliber or base.聽Because what we face is a world that is regulated by IT, “he explained.
Regarding this 21st century curriculum, universities run their respective programs.聽Kemristek-Dikti provides assistance in the form of technical and funding support, and universities that run the program.聽So, college programs from ne another can be different.聽(*)
