UKM KSR-PMI Promotes Campus Disaster Preparedness

UNAIR NEWS聽– Student organizations (ormawa) in (UNAIR) on Tuesday, April 3 were officially inaugurated.聽There was management handover and work program formulation, including for Student Activity Unit (UKM) Volunteer Corps of Red Cross Indonesia (KSR-PMI).

Head of UKM KSR-PMI Rizqi Supramulyana Putra said that the organization has planned interesting work programs this year.聽One of them is to make UNAIR as Campus with Disaster Preparedness (KSB).

According to him, KSB is an integrated disaster risk reduction based on campus.聽The main target is the creation of safe and resilient campus and society to face disasters.

“This idea, (KSB work program, ed) makes UNAIR with its students and campus residents have an active role as agents of change in the campus environment especially to make disaster risk reduction efforts (DRR) on an ongoing basis, “he explained.

In Indonesia, there is only one university that declares itself as KSB, State University of Semarang (Unnes) in Central Java.聽According to Supra, it is an opportunity to make UNAIR as KSB as well as gain reputation with the better quality.

“Indirectly, UNAIR will be a pilot project for other campuses who want to become Disaster Prepared Campus.聽This program is expected to support UNAIR towards聽World Class University聽(WCU) to the Top 500 world rankings, “he said.

As an effort to realize UNAIR as KSB, UKM KSR-PMI has conducted a comparative study to Unnes.聽The event, continued Supra, is aimed to explore and exchange experiences, information, about KSR-PMI especially related to KSB program.

“Our KSR-PMI delegation asked about the steps, implementation process, obstacles and their complaints as inputs and lessons.聽When we were there, we never thought would be able to join the seminar Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polinnes), “he said.

Based on the comparative study, Supra explained that UNAIR actually has the potential to become KSB.聽Moreover, UKM KSR-PMI has conducted discussion about KSB with K3, Sub Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) UNAIR, in the Management Office. 聽According to them, the concept of KSB actually already exist.聽However, it is still on a small scale.

“We hope, in this process, 聽there is internal support from KSR-PMI and external UNAIR.聽Because, it is very necessary.聽Primarily in the effort to realize UNAIR as Campus with Disaster Prepared, “said Supra.聽(*)
