RADIO UNAIR – Earth Day on April 22 is always celebrated with many environmental activities. This celebration is a popular event for students or nature lovers’ organizations, in Indonesia. WANALA ������ has also planned for an event called WANAFEST 2016.

WANALA Adventure Festival 2016 is the first festival held by UKM WANALA which was also a part of WANALA UNAIR 42th Anniversary celebration.

“We held this festival to facilitate and appreciate Indonesian nature loving students especially in East Java, as the place where we work on natural preservation,” said Aulia Rahman, the head of WANAFEST 2016.

The student of Islamic Economy 2011 graduated on Sunday, March 19 added that the festival was hoped to facilitate creativity and activity of nature lovers’ communities in East Java.

The festival held in April will have many social, sports and educational activities. As an opening event, there will be a community service activity held in Ranupani village, Senduro, Lumajang on April 2-3, 2016. This social event in Semeru mountainside is aimed to improve locals’ interest on reading and their environmental awareness. It is conducted by repairing libraries and reading club’s spot, and also by reforestation to preserve the nature.

“We believed that by repairing and renovating reading club’s spot, the locals will be interested and often visit it. With this small contribution, we want to start a reading habit for the youngsters,” said Weni Pamulatsih, an Accounting student from Faculty of Economics and Business 2012.

This community service event will be followed with a national wall climbing competition called “WANALA Climbing Competition” (April 8-10), Ecotourism Seminar (April 10), Green Running (April 16) and ended with a Bazaar (April 16). (*)
