UNAIR NEWS – Dentistry Intellectual Challenge (Dentine) 2019 is an annual work program held by Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG)  The academic competition is intended for students  of senior high school / equivalent schools throughout Indonesia.
Unlike previous year, the implementation of 11th Dentine preliminary round was held with two systems. That is an online and offline system. After passing the preliminary and semifinal rounds, on Sunday, Jan. 27, Dentine 2019 final in FKG was held.
RM Luqman Adi Wiratama Nurrobi, Head of FKG UNAIR BEM or known as Luqman explained that one of Dentine’s objectives was to make high school students interested in college life. It is also expected to make easier for high school students to continue their studies as they have national standard competition certificate.
However, to reach all regions in Indonesia is not easy especially for areas that are difficult to reach.
“The online system provides a solution to the problem,” Luqman said.
°Â¾±³Ù³óÌý´Ç²Ô±ô¾±²Ô±ðÌý²õ²â²õ³Ù±ð³¾, students can work anywhere through their laptops or computers. In addition, online participants are also welcome to open books while working.
“Because of that convenience, the number of online participants who can qualify for the semi-final stage is limited to only five teams,” explained Luqman.
On the other hand, regulations for offline participants are more strict. Like most tests, offline participants must not cheat and open books.
Offline participants must also take the exam at the location determined by the committee, which is spread across 19 regions in Indonesia: Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Bali, Banyuwangi, Gresik, Jakarta, Jember, Jombang, Kediri, Lamongan, Madiun, Madura, Malang, Mojokerto, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Solo, Tuban, and Tulungagung.
“Due to stricter rules for offline participants, we passed 53 teams to enter the semi-finals,” Luqman said.
From 58 teams that passed the semi-finals, they were selected again and ten teams were taken to enter the final. The entire team was given the opportunity to complete the fun rally stage to get to the grand final.
Furthermore, the five teams qualified for the grand final also had to compete again for the title. The grand final stage itself, consists of practicum and quiz questions, fast round and solving analysis questions.
Of all these stages, SMA Unggulan MH Thamrin, Jakarta, won 1st place. Followed by SMAN 3 Bandung in the second place, Malang MAN 2 in the third place, SMAN 2 Kediri in the fourth place, and SMAN 1 Jember in the fifth place. Announcement of Dentine 2019 winners was attended by FKG UNAIR Dean, Dentine 2019 supervisors, and judges from FMIPA.
Luqman hoped that in the future Dentine can reach all high school students in Indonesia or even international students. So that more high school students are interested in going on to college, especially in FKG UNAIR.
“Hopefully more and more students will be interested in entering FKG UNAIR, the oldest FKG in Indonesia and one of the best,” Luqman said.

Luqman also thanked Dentine 2019 committee chairman, Rafi Ardhitoas he is the most integral part in the success of Dentine 2019 implementation.
In addition, Dean of FKG UNAIR, Dr. R. Darmawan Setijanto., drg., M.Kes in his speech advised that the future implementation of Dentine will not only hold academic competitions but also entrepreneurship competition for senior high schoolers.

“Hopefully in the future Dentine will not only hold academic competitions but also competitions on entrepreneurship for high schoolers,” said Dr. R. Darmawan. (*)
