UNAIR NEWS聽– Students in this era should be able to hone聽soft skills聽to face the competition.聽There is a fierce competition in professional world at the moment.聽In addition to academic skill, another skills are needed to be able to compete.
The ability to know self鈥檚 strength and weakness is also important so their potentials can be honed properly.
“Knowing the strength of self will be important capital.聽To optimize the potential, ” said Christina Mia, a practitioner of HR & Training, in her lecture in building B Faculty of Vocational Studies, Thursday, November 16.
She added that self-control is also important.聽Self-control from the emotional, spiritual, and intellectual aspects will channel the abilities or skills properly.
She also said that the current challenges are not only coming from within the country.聽The opening of MEA brought greater climate of competition in Indonesia.聽 Hotels in Surabaya may be filled by workers from Thailand, Philippines, and Malaysia.
“Don鈥檛 hold yourself back.聽Do all the work, even if it’s a low level job.聽As long as it is done diligently, and continue to learn, your hope will be realized, “said Cristina.
The industry of hospitality and tourism is growing rapidly.聽Tourism has become one of the important sectors in regional development.聽Thus, the graduates of the related majors are also being sought.
However, alumnus od D3 and S1 programs should not relax because, so far there are many majors in tourism or hospitality in vocational schools.聽They also give competition and should trigger improvement in learning.
She spoke fluently about the topic with some聽fresh聽jokes聽and interacted well with the audience, which were mostly students and lecturers.
Guest lectures like this are routinely done at Faculty of Vocational Studies.聽Hopefully, students can take lessons from the speakers.聽“The presenters who were invited were practitioners and academics who had been successful in their fields.聽Students can be inspired, “said Dian Yulie Riendrawati Ph.D as Head of Department of Hospitality Management Program Faculty of Vocational Studies Unair.
