UNAIR NEWS –聽The first day of the 5th Indonesian Conference on Tobacco Control or Health (ICTOH) at Hotel Bumi Surabaya was held on Monday, May 7.聽The event supported by The Union International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and Ministry of Health of Indonesia was attended by various communities, from students, communities, to professors and public health experts in Indonesia.
Speeches from various representatives of organizations and educational institutions marked the opening of the conference.
There was a report from the Chairman of IAKMI (Association of Indonesian Public Health Experts) Dr.聽Ridwan Thaha;聽Vice Rector III of Prof.聽Ir.聽Moch.聽Amin Alamsjah, M.Si., Ph.D .;聽Director of Tobacco Control-The Union Dr.聽Gan Quan;聽and General Director of Disease Control and Prevention (P2P) of Indonesian Ministry of Health Dr. Anung Sugihartono.聽It was marked with the gong beating.
Dr.聽Anung conveyed that knowledge alone is not enough.聽Role model should be found.聽The role of many parties is needed at once together to fight for tobacco control in Indonesia.
“Advocacy and dissemination to stakeholders must be improved.聽Disseminate the dangers of cigarettes, organize quit smoking services at the lowest level, and utilize this meeting as well as possible so that it can be applied in their respective areas, ” said the man born Temanggung.
Meanwhile, the event was followed with the declaration of commitment together among higher education institutions of public health (kesmas) in Indonesia, especially about the implementation of Non-Smoking Area (KTR) guided by the Chairman of Indonesian Public Health Institutions Association (AIPTKMI).聽Agustin Kusumayati.
According to Dr.聽Agustin, through the signing session, it is fitting for higher education institutions to have a program of health studies, committed to earnestly implement KTR especially in their campus environment.
The panel discussion on Role of Mayors / Regents Alliance in Protecting Public Health through a Non-Smoking Regions Policy 100% was next on the first day of the conference.聽It was moderated by dr.聽Lily Sriwahyuni 鈥嬧婼ulistyowati, MM.
Speakers in the session were Dr. Anung Sugihartono on “Development of KTR Implementation in Indonesia”;聽Dr.聽Hasto Wardoyo, Sp.OG (Kulonprogo Regent / Chairman of Regents / Mayors Alliance of Indonesia) on “Lesson from the Prohibition of Advertising Banning, Promotion and Sponsorship of Cigarettes in Kulonprogo Regency鈥;聽and Bima Arya S. (Mayor of Bogor) on “Lesson and Prohibition of Cigarette Retail Ads in Bogor City鈥.
There was also Drs.聽Dzulmi Eldin M.Si (Mayor of Medan) on “Cigarette Tax in Medan City and IB Purwa Sidemen (Executive Director of BPD Association of Bali Hotels and Restaurants) regarding the implementation of KTR in Hotel and Restaurant in Bali.聽Followed by the second panel discussion 聽with speakers like Pungkas Bahruji Ali (Director of Community Health and Nutrition, Ministry of PPN / Bapennas), Lenny Nurhayati Rosalin (Deputy Children Growth, Ministry of PPPA), and Dina Kurnia (World Health Organization Representative Indonesia).聽(*)
