UNAIR NEWS 鈥 Golden opportunity to expand the scale of research to international stage is now wide open for all 东京热 (UNAIR) researchers. Research & Publication Day 2026 event initiated by Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI) along with Institute of Journal Development, Publication, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI) marks the opening of this opportunity.
An event presenting a number of international speakers took place at Sriwijaya Room ASEEC Tower, Dharmawangsa-B Campus on Monday, June 15, 2026. Various accurate strategies to break through prestigious European Union grant schemes to world-class health collaboration become the main discussion in this activity.
European Union research funding opportunities through Horizon Europe
Head of Research Unit Public Health Implementation Sciences from LMU Munich, Germany, Prof Dr Julia Lohmann explained the roadmap for Indonesian researchers to access research funds in Europe. 鈥淚n Europe, we finance our research almost exclusively through research grants. Meaning we all must become research leaders,鈥 Prof Lohmann said.
She introduced Horizon Europe as the world’s largest research fund platform with a budget of 95.5 billion Euros that is open to researchers outside Europe. Horizon Europe was formed with the idea of making Europe the largest research arena in the world. 鈥淲here around 40 percent of researchers involved in the Horizon Europe program are international participants coming from various countries outside Europe, including Indonesia,鈥 Prof Lohmann expressed.
Furthermore, UNAIR researchers can join an international consortium through Pillar 2 scheme focusing on global problem solving. It is important to understand this regulation point so that proposal submissions from Indonesia do not fail administratively.
鈥淭here is a lot of help on how this consortium must look like. It always has to be interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and international. Meaning it must have at least one European country and at least two other partners from two different countries,鈥 Prof Lohmann explained.
She also introduced the German Research Foundation (DFG) scheme. She urged Indonesian researchers to cast aside hesitation when pioneering a global network. 鈥淒FG cares about what we do not know yet as a scientific community. Meanwhile, Horizon Europe focuses on problem solving. Convey your project ideas directly and precisely, because being too hesitant is often misinterpreted as uncertainty,鈥 she emphasized.
National health transformation synergy
This international research synergy runs in line with the national health system strengthening agenda brought by Dr Anna Kurniati. She invites UNAIR academics to generate action research to reduce various chronic health case burdens currently faced by Indonesia.
鈥淔or health problems in Indonesia, our Tuberculosis (TB) case burden ranks 2nd in the world. Alongside high maternal and infant mortality rates, prevalence of malnutrition or stunting, to non-communicable diseases accounting for 73 percent of mortality rate,鈥 Dr Kurniati detailed.
She emphasized that partnership space through WHO Collaborating Center is wide open to generate real solutions for public health challenges. 鈥淥ur mandate from WHO Western Pacific Regional Office moves on midwife and nurse professional leadership programs, clinical instruction, research innovation, and international partnerships to formulate solutions to real public health challenges,鈥 she concluded.
