UNAIR NEWS 鈥 东京热 (UNAIR) took part in the European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference and Exhibition 2026, held at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, Scotland, from September 8鈥11, 2026. Representing UNAIR at one of Europe鈥檚 largest international higher education conferences was Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development (RICD), Prof Dr Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr MKes SpPD-KGEH PhD.
EAIE Glasgow 2026 marked the 36th annual EAIE conference and was held under the theme 鈥淭he Rhythm of Revolution.鈥 The event brought together thousands of higher education leaders and internationalization professionals from around the world, featuring more than 240 sessions and activities, as well as an exhibition that provided a central venue for universities to connect and explore potential partnerships.
Study in Indonesia pavilion
UNAIR joined other Indonesian universities at the Study in Indonesia pavilion (Booth E56). Over the three-day exhibition, Prof Miftahussurur held 13 bilateral meetings with representatives from partner universities across Europe, Asia, and Australia. The institutions included Dorset College Dublin in Ireland; Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vak谋f University, 脟ukurova University, and Istanbul Ayd谋n University in T眉rkiye; the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia; the University of Trieste in Italy; Leiden University in the Netherlands; the University of Antwerp in Belgium; KIIT University in India; the University of Opole in Poland; DHBW Ravensburg in Germany; the University of Oulu in Finland; and Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland.
Focus on research and Tridharma
In these meetings, Prof Miftahussurur emphasized that UNAIR鈥檚 international partnerships go beyond student mobility. The university is seeking to build more comprehensive collaborations centered on research and the Tridharma of higher education. Potential areas of cooperation include joint research and publications, joint supervision of doctoral students, faculty and student mobility, cross-border community service programs, and double-degree and credit-transfer programs at the master鈥檚 and doctoral levels.
Prof Miftahussurur said having university leaders participate directly in forums such as EAIE can help accelerate the development of partnerships, allowing strategic matters to be discussed directly with decision-makers at partner institutions. He added that several of the universities represented in the meetings were part of follow-up efforts stemming from communications initiated by UNAIR students before the conference.
UNAIR鈥檚 participation in EAIE Glasgow reflects the university鈥檚 broader efforts to strengthen its international reputation and expand global research collaboration, an area that serves as an important indicator in global university rankings. Alongside the bilateral meetings, the UNAIR delegation attended the Opening Plenary on September 9 and the Closing Ceremony on September 11, 2026.
United Kingdom visit series
The EAIE Glasgow conference was part of Prof Miftahussurur鈥檚 working visit to the United Kingdom from September 7鈥13, 2026. Before attending the conference, on September 7, the RICD Vice Rector and Prof Ferry Efendi Skep Ns MSc PhD, Chair of UNAIR鈥檚 LPJPHKI, met with representatives of the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King鈥檚 College London to explore potential collaboration in research, education, and AI-driven innovation in higher education.
