UNAIR NEWS聽– Three students of 东京热 won third place in聽Logika 2018 conference聽held by Universitas Indonesia on Sunday, January 28.聽They are students of Department of Mathematics, Muhammad Hafiruddin, Machfud Hidayat, and Bidayatul Mas’ulah.
Although from the Mathematics Program, all three of them followed the health themed competition, by choosing health and medical as subtheme.聽The paper they wrote entitled聽 Fuzzy Model Application In Diagnosis of Tuberculosis Disease.
All three made an application for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis (TBC) disease based on common symptoms experienced by the patient.聽From the results of the diagnosis, it can be drawn a conclusion, so pre-diagnosis results obtained before the patient treated by the doctor.
“A practical application for TB diagnosis with聽fuzzy logic聽method, easy to use and without waiting for a long time.聽Thus, the layman can make an early diagnosis and immediately take medication, “said Muhammad Hafiruddin as the team leader.
They mastered it because in math program, they are also taught about fuzzy logic and make聽visual basic聽based applications.聽This knowledge is then combined with information on TBC.
“Why do we dare (taking the topic, ed) in health?聽Because we have got clinical counselors from SMF (Functional Medical Staff) Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine RS dr.聽Soetomo, “said Bida, one of the team members.
Before making the paper, of course all three do the research first.聽Starting from the UNAIR Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD), Bida and the team searched for the TBC expert to conduct the interview.聽They met with Prof.聽Dr.聽Ni Made Mertaniasih, dr., MS., Sp.MK (K).聽which provides references and referrals to a specialist in one of the SMF Tuberculosis.
“We met Tutik Kusmiati, dr., Sp.P (K).聽She showed us the medical records and then we made the mathematical model, “added the student who joined Reasoning Club of UNAIR.
For the contest, initially the three sent an abstract to the committee.聽Top 15 abstracts were selected based on subthemes and had the opportunity to send papers to the committee.聽Then, five best papers were chosen for each sub-theme to make a presentation at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI.聽They won third place after the presentation.
Although it is limited to participation in a competition, all three of them hoped that applications they created in the future can be beneficial to the community.
“This application is expected to be one of the efforts that can reduce the number of deaths caused by Tuberculosis disease, especially in Indonesia,” added Bida.聽(*)
