UNAIR NEWS –聽Faculty of Public Health (FKM), 东京热 (), being located on the side of the big street, cannot be separated from smoke pollution.聽For that reason, on Sunday, September 2, participants of Basic Level Student Leadership and Management Training (LKMM-TD) FKM UNAIR held a Sansevieria planting event around the southern parking area.
Rafiqah Rana, the chief executive of the activity explained, Sansevieria was chosen because they give more benefits.聽Besides being able to beautify the environment, it makes the environment healthy as well because Sansevieria is able to absorb toxins and pollution in the air, as well as radiation from electronic and communication devices and it also produces fiber.
“Sansevieria is considered a desert plant.聽Therefore, this plant form is simple.聽In addition, this plant is also tolerant of low light, limited water, and poor soil conditions, “explained Rafiqah.
This activity is originated from the sustainability task of LKMM-TD on the increasing air pollution.聽By planting this plants, air pollution is expected to be reduced, especially in FKM UNAIR.
Besides aiming to improve knowledge and skills regarding the benefits of Sansevieria plants, she also explained that Sansevieria has a positive impact on the environment and reduces air pollution around the campus.聽The activity, was also relevant to the knowledge taught to public health students, to emphasize preventive and promotive rather than curative and rehabilitative actions.
By planting Sansevieria, it means FKM students have moved one step to prevent various diseases caused by air pollution and radiation emission such as ISPA (Acute Respiratory Infection), asthma, and lung cancer.
“About fifty LKMM-TD students participated in this activity.聽Interestingly, in this activity we can help each other among group members in the planting process to create a sense of kinship, “explained Rafiqah.
After the activity, Rafiqah hoped that students could be more sensitive to the surrounding environment, especially FKM UNAIR environment.聽With these activities, students also introduce the benefits of sansevieria.
