FH Holds 2nd International Conference on Law, Governance and Globalization (ICLGG)

UNAIR NEWS –聽Globalization demands the law to adapt as a consequence of new emerging institutional order.聽For some time, the institutional order was expressed in the context of law even though globalization pushes into one connectivity.聽This approach can be bring both advantages and disadvantages at the same time because, that fact influenced investment, democracy, international relations, corruption, terrorism and social justice.

In response, the Faculty of Law (FH) held the 2nd International Conference on Law, Governance and Globalization (ICLGG) on Tuesday-Wednesday August 28-29 at Swiss Belinn Tunjungan, Surabaya.聽It is planned that ICLGG will be held annually.

“One of the goals is also to increase the publication in FH UNAIR itself and attract master and doctoral program students.聽The bachelor鈥檚 degree students should also be accustomed to publications on an international scale, “said Faizal Kurniawan as Deputy of the committee.

Some聽keynote speakers聽presented were Prof.聽Dato ‘Dr, Rahmat Mohammad (Universitas Teknologi Mara, Malaysia);聽Prof.聽Sam Blay, LLB, M Int. Law, Ph.D (Top Education Institute, Australia);聽Prof.聽Dr.聽Tinike E. Lambooy, LL.M (Corporate Law at Nyenrode Business Universiteit, Netherlands);聽and Prof.聽Christoph Antons (University of Newcastle, Australia, Callaghan) including FH UNAIR academics, Amira Paripurna, SH, LL.M., Ph.D and Intan Inayatun Soeparna, SH, M.Hum.

Prof. Dato鈥 spoke on 鈥滶mpowering Developing Countries in International Trade鈥. Meanwhile, Prof. Sam Blay discussed 鈥漀ational Interest in International聽 Relation鈥 and聽 Intan Soeparna talked about 鈥漌hat鈥檚 next it Government: the Future Indonesia Strategic Plan in International Trade鈥.

“Some of the聽keynote speakers聽were from聽the first聽conference.聽One of the goals is to聽share ideas.聽For example, Prof.聽Tinike Lambooy first discussed chemicals used in jeans products.聽Yesterday she pointed out that jeans and electronic products were no longer sustainable.聽So, if we use a聽cellphone聽, and it is damaged, it聽will聽be discarded.聽Even with clothes, we throw them out after it is worn out.聽This causes tremendous waste, “said Faizal.

“So from what was conveyed in the first ICLGG, what was found from the second one?聽There is also Prof.聽Sam Blay who emphasized national interests.聽We want to know the development and research that most聽updated聽from Europe, Australia, and Asia.聽So, those speakers were invited, “he added.

Please note, there were about 70 participants attended the conference.聽They were academics, practitioners, and students either from UNAIR and from outside UNAIR.聽(*)
