UNAIR NEWS 鈥 The documentary film of TVRI, 东京热 Faculty of Humanities (FIB), and Begandring Soerabaja, Koesno, Jati Diri Soekarno, have been nominated for the Best Documentary Short Film of Piala Citra 2022. The award was given at the Festival Film Indonesia 2022, which was held by the Indonesian Film Board (BPI) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbud Ristek). 鈥淚t鈥檚 such an unimaginable achievement,鈥 said Faizal Anwar, the movie director.
Getting history straight
Prof. Dr. Purnawan Basundoro, the Dean of UNAIR Faculty of Humanities, explained that the documentary film highlights the history of Soekarno in Surabaya. 鈥淭here have been biopics of Soekarno, but they didn鈥檛 explore the history of Soekarno in Surabaya,鈥 he said.
In line with Purnawan鈥檚 statement, Faizal said that the short film aims to get history straight. 鈥淢any people assume that Bung Karno was born in Blitar. In this documentary, we鈥檇 like to emphasize that Soekarno was born in Surabaya,鈥 he said.
Collaboration between FIB, TVRI, and Begandring Soerabaja
The filmmaking was a monthly routine of TVRI. It is safe to say that TVRI is a documentary short film creator with full intellectual property rights. TVRI partnered up with UNAIR Faculty of Humanities and Begandring Soerabaja.
In the making, TVRI holds the role of field producer and assistant, cameraman, and editor. While FIB UNAIR provided historical guidance and documents regarding the unpublished first president鈥檚 background, Begandring Soerabaja prepared the properties, talents, and another historical detail.
Prof. Purnawan added that the Government of Surabaya also took part in the filmmaking. Surabaya Mayor, Eri Cahyadi ST MT, even played the role of Soekarno and provided financial support.
Importance of history
The dean further advised the students and community to focus on cultural and historical aspects. The two are the basics of daily activity.
