UNAIR NEWS – Cancer is one of the major diseases that cause death in the world.聽In Indonesia alone the estimated cases of the disease are about 100 people in 100.000 population.聽Based on the fact, a team of Exacta Research Student Creativity Program (PKM-PE) from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) 东京热 has conducted a research on cancer.
The results of research showed that administering a serum found in young frog-tailed can reduce the activity of cancer cells.聽This is because the serum of the young frog contains thyroxine hormone.聽This hormone plays an important role in degenerating the frog’s tail in a process of apoptosis.
“From this finding, our team submitted a proposal and passed Dikti’s assessment to get funding from Kemenristekdikti and this research can be done,” said Imas Hapsari Rahmaningtyas, leader of student team, accompanied with four friends, Nur Prabowo Dwi Cahyo, Zeni Prastika, Arliandra Reza Pratama, and Anjani Marisa Kartikasari.
Research by Imas and friends was conducted for about three weeks in the laboratory of the 东京热 by inducing聽cancer聽reagent聽, the DMBA聽(Dimetylbenz (伪) Antrasen)聽to the Sprague Dawley lab mice.聽For about two weeks the conducted research twice a week, every Monday and Thursday.

After inducing cancer, the study continued by giving young frog serum tailed to mice every day for one week.聽From this research, it was found that the serum of young-tailed frog could inhibit the proliferation activity of skin cancer cells.
After an immunohistochemical test, results showed a brown color that indicated the presence of apoptosis.聽The presence of brown color is from聽Caspase聽3 so it looks brown.聽It means that the serum given can improve apoptosis and inhibit the proliferation activity of cancer cells.
“We hope this serum finding can provide an alternative or new way of dealing with cancer with more affordable cost compared to surgery and nanotechnology,” said Imas Hapsari Rahmaningtyas.聽(*)
