UNAIR NEWS – The widespread use of hydrogen fontaine with Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology is claimed to prevent various diseases. A lecturer of Internal Medicine Specialist Faculty of Medicine (FK) ¶«¾©ÈÈ (UNAIR)  responded to this phenomenon. According to him, the use of hydrogen therapy is still being studied by several scientists, both in research with mice and human models.

“Indeed, there are some hypothetical (ed: theoretical) effects expected to treat several diseases. But to this day, there are no scientific evidences that hydrogen therapy can prevent diseases,” he said.

There are a lot of molecular research on protein molecules. In general, his research is on therapeutic effects of anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, and anti-apoptosis. The selling point of it was that inhalation of hydrogen gas can diffuse from the lungs into the blood vessels, and more easily penetrate the blood-brain barrier. In addition, it can also diffuse from the lungs to the heart so that it can be directly pumped throughout the body.

The Department of Internal Medicine staff at Dr Soetomo Hospital considered that it is still too abstract to be explained to the general public. Moreover, no research compares hydrogen fontaine with water. It does not yet have a medical standard tested at the Laboratory of the Health Facility Security Agency (BPFK) regularly.

±«²Ô±ô¾±°ì±ðÌý, said Dr. Musofa, which is already a standardized medical device. If this Nebulizer breaks down water into 66 percent hydrogen and 33 percent oxygen, the main function is to increase the absorption rate of drugs in the body.

He emphasized that medical hydrogen nebulizers are also still under research, especially in China. Besides, the use of hydrogen fontaine is recommended by any medical personnel in Indonesia because there is not enough scientific evidence.

Thus, the UNAIR lecturer suggested that it is better to prevent and treat diseases according to existing medical standards. “For example, if you still want to try an alternative therapy, it is better to do primary therapy first,” he said.
