Improving Nurse Competency, HPMI Holds Assessor Training

UNAIR NEWS聽–聽The Indonesian Association of Nurse Managers (HPMI) held “Training of Clinical Nurses’ Competency Assessors” at 东京热 Hospital (RSUA) for five days (from 11 to 15 April).聽The biennial routine training was opened by Dr.聽Prayetno S.Kep., M.Kep.

The focus of the training is the knowledge of assessors on the methodology of how they聽recognize聽nurses in hospital.聽On the same occasion, Eka Widiati, S.Kep, M.Kep., as the facilitator of HPMI explained that the training is aimed to protect the community as patients in the hospital during treatment.

“The hospital should have a system that cares for the patient is a competent nurse.聽The goal, the community as a patient can be protected, “she said.

In nursing, according to Eka, a nurse must have three things, knowledge, skills, and attitudes.聽Nurses are good and competent when they have three things.

“If they are smart, but lacking of ethics, it won鈥檛 do.聽Good skill but no vast knowledge, they won鈥檛 be competent.聽We can say they are competent when all three are owned by nurses, “he explained.

Furthermore, Eka said that the nursing system has not been well organized.聽Therefore, nurses who are already on the field should definitely be competent.聽And, for nurses who have not been competent, there should be聽special聽treatment聽from the hospital.

“For example, when they make a mistake, we evaluate the nurse.聽If the nurse is not competent, the hospital must be responsible.聽But, if they are competent, we look at the competency gap.聽Which treatment can be given, not as assessors who look for a mistake, ” she explained.

Eka added, by looking at the gap, training can be focused.聽That way, the training can be adjusted with the gap so no training is not clear the purpose.

The activity of HPMI, Eka explained, was not this training only.聽During and after the training, Follow-up Plans (RTL) in each hospital should be established.聽The certificate will not be issued if the RTL has not been completed.

With the assessment of the competence, the hospital can bring trainers to achieve the competence the nurses do not yet have.聽HPMI will assist for six months as well as guide the participating assessors to maximize the results of the training.聽(*)
