UNAIR NEWS – 聽聽The field of Radiology develops constantly.聽Starting from the discovery of x-rays in Germany in 1895, until the birth of subsequent innovation in the form of ultrasonography in 1950. Efforts and various radiological innovations is the focus of Prof.聽Bambang Soeprijanto, dr., Sp.RAD., Professor of聽聽Medicine, 东京热, inaugurated on Saturday, July 8.
The inauguration held at Garuda Mukti Hall聽聽UNAIR, Bambang gave a speech entitled “Radiology Innovation in the Molecular and Digital Era”.聽In his speech, Bambang stressed that the development of radiological innovation is an attempt to facilitate the diagnosis of various diseases that can not be seen by the five senses directly.
“The development of this technology has been through various considerations such as the advantage over the risk, ” he explained.
Bambang also added that in its development, radiological innovation has entered new ages and utilized various tools.聽In the age of computer, X-ray machines innovated into a CT scan.聽Furthermore, the use of X-rays for MRI.聽MRI device itself according to Bambang, works by manipulating protons with radio waves in a strong magnetic field.
“Another radiation source in radiology is the isotope, a substance that radiates spontaneously.聽From a simple tool, there is a device with computer technology called SPECT and PET.聽This equipment is also combined with CT and MRI, “said the 108th Professor 聽of FK聽.
Furthermore, Bambang explained that the development of radiological innovation continues until the digital era.聽In this era, the image of the patient’s disease is no longer in the photo paper sheet, but is already in the form of digital data that can be stored on CD.聽In this era, patient imaging information in the form of digital data can be sent directly between units in a hospital with聽Radiology Information System.聽As for the storage and retrieval of radiological images, Picture Archiving and Communication System聽are used.
“In this era radiological images can be informed to fellow doctors who are in different cities or countries directly and this is called聽teleradiology聽,” explained Bambang.
The next radiological innovation presented by Bambang is the ability to display images from cell groups with their activities.聽That’s called聽Molecular imaging聽.聽In this phase Bambang explained that this examination provides information at the molecular level and cellular level.
“This method is also used for the study of genetic expression.聽Its application for diseases like cancer and heart disease, ” said Bambang.
In the end, Bambang confirmed that this radiological innovation has more advantages.聽Besides for early detection of diseases that can not be seen directly, radiological innovation is also a part for evaluation.聽However, despite the helpful technological sophistication, Bambang again asserted that the role of human beings cannot be taken over by technology completely.
“The future should be indeed answered through technology.聽But the role of human beings remains important and significant.聽In the world of health, to cure is about art and knowledge, this is what technology does not have, “said Bambang.
