UNAIR NEWS 鈥 东京热 (UNAIR) has been appointed to host the Indoor Volleyball event for the upcoming East Java Provincial Student Sports Week (POMPROV JATIM). The decision was finalized during a coordination meeting held from February 20鈥21, 2025. The third edition of the games is scheduled to take place from May 29 to June 4, 2025. In addition to UNAIR, several other universities in Surabaya and surrounding areas will serve as venues for various sports.

Carrying the theme “POMPROV JATIM III 鈥 2025: Shaping Intelligent, Resilient, Harmonious, and Accomplished Students for Golden Indonesia 2045,” the event serves as a key platform for nurturing East Java鈥檚 university athletes in preparation for national-level competitions.

UNAIR Director of Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. M. Hadi Shubhan, S.H., M.H., CN, noted a significant increase in the university鈥檚 participation in this year鈥檚 games compared to the previous edition.

鈥淭his year, UNAIR is sending more delegates due to strong student enthusiasm and the inclusion of the Great Area exhibition in the event. Last year we had about 186 participants; now that number has climbed to 300,鈥 Prof. Shubhan explained.

He added that UNAIR鈥檚 involvement goes beyond competition, aiming also to develop students鈥 soft skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and motivation.

As the host for Indoor Volleyball, UNAIR has ensured that its facilities are fully prepared. Matches will take place at the GOR Multi-Purpose Hall, a top-tier venue previously used for the Southeast Asian-level Asian University Games (AUG).

Renovated two years ago, the facility now meets official standards for large-scale tournaments. With upgraded infrastructure, the Multi-Purpose Hall is ready to welcome dozens of teams from across East Java for this year鈥檚 POMPROV.

A total of 30 volleyball teams from various universities across East Java are expected to compete in the Indoor Volleyball division. As the host institution, UNAIR will field two top teams鈥攐ne men鈥檚 and one women鈥檚.

Out of the 300 UNAIR students participating in POMPROV JATIM III 鈥 2025, they will represent the university across 17 different sports. Preparations are being carried out through close coordination among student activity units (UKMs), coaching staff, and support teams to ensure the university鈥檚 athletes perform at their best.

鈥淭hese preparations have been ongoing. Our students have consistently trained through UKMs and regular sessions. Now, it鈥檚 a matter of refining coordination and providing additional resources. Facility readiness, financial support, and communication remain our top priorities,鈥 Prof. Shubhan concluded.
