UNAIR NEWS 鈥 The Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), 东京热 (UNAIR), through its Human, Culture, and Physical Laboratory (Lab MaBuRag), launched the 2026 Jatim Melaju Collaborative Research (Riskolab) program in Ngadirejo Village, Pasuruan, on Friday (July 10, 2026). The strategic initiative, conducted in collaboration with Village Head Muliono, Village Secretary Willy Morten, and cultural figure Yohanes Kurniawan, focuses on promoting the green economy through spring conservation while improving the quality of education for local residents.

The 2026 Jatim Melaju Riskolab team is led by UNAIR principal researcher, Prof Dr H Muhammad Adib Drs MA, in collaboration with researchers from UIN Kediri and UIN Tulungagung. This cross-institutional partnership aims to develop a green economy model rooted in the local wisdom of the Bromo Tengger community.
鈥淭hrough this collaboration, we aim to transform the village into a living laboratory for solutions, focusing on how natural resources can directly benefit the local community,鈥 Prof Adib said.
The community service program is designed to deliver practical solutions to environmental challenges faced by rural communities in the upstream Bromo area. Ngadirejo Village will serve as a center for innovation in optimizing local resources to support long-term economic self-reliance.
鈥淥ur main focus is to ensure that these natural resources provide direct benefits to the community, including supporting scholarship programs for the village鈥檚 younger generation through green economy initiatives,鈥 he emphasized.
Preserving tradition amid modernization
The village government has welcomed the cross-university collaboration as an effort to preserve the natural environment and local traditions amid the challenges of modernization.鈥淎s the village government, we remain committed to supporting the initiatives proposed by these professors, particularly those related to protecting our spring water sources. We have worked to preserve these resources so that people and nature can continue to coexist in harmony,鈥 Muliono said
The village government has identified 62 undocumented spring water sources that require legal protection based on the findings of this research.鈥淲ith the presence of Prof. Adib, Prof. Asror, and the research team, I hope that once this study is completed, it will result in regulations that help protect these spring water sources for future generations,鈥 Muliono explained.
The local community leader added that the dozens of spring water sources also hold significant cultural and spiritual value for the Tengger people. This rich heritage has strong potential to be developed into educational, health, and religious tourism destinations.鈥淭hese places can serve not only as sites for protecting water resources but also as spaces that bring peace of mind. That is the essence of our local wisdom,鈥 he concluded.
