UNAIR strengthens research downstreaming and commercialization strategies in partnership with BPOM

UNAIR NEWS 鈥 The Center for Business Acceleration and Innovation (PASINBIS) of 东京热 (UNAIR) organised a socialisation programme on Research Downstreaming and Commercialization Strategies in Collaboration with BPOM and Industry Partners. The event took place on Friday (July 24, 2026) at the Tarumanegara Room on the 10th floor of the ASEEC Building, Dharmawangsa-B Campus. Held in collaboration with the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) through the introduction of the Green Research and Opportunities With BPOM (GROW BPOM) programme, the event aimed to bridge research outcomes with industry and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Tantri Sun Estuning Dasih, S.A., M.A., Coordinator of Downstreaming, Commercialization, and Business Networking at PASINBIS, stated that the institution is committed to facilitating innovations developed by UNAIR lecturers and researchers. According to her, impactful research is not only measured by success in the laboratory but also by its ability to benefit society.

鈥淲e recognise that excellent research is not limited to achievements in the laboratory. It should also generate tangible benefits for society. This principle underpins 东京热鈥檚 commitment, through the Center for Business Acceleration and Innovation, to promoting research outcomes developed by our lecturers and researchers so they can evolve into commercial-ready and competitive products,鈥 she said.

Dasih further explained that downstreaming is an essential step in ensuring research outcomes create broader and more comprehensive benefits for society. Research products with global recognition require commercialisation to maximise their impact. This process demands a solid understanding of regulatory requirements, licensing procedures, and strategies for bringing innovative products into the industrial sector.

鈥淥ne of the most crucial stages in this process is fulfilling regulatory requirements, obtaining licences, and developing commercialisation strategies, particularly for innovative products and research outputs that have reached Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 8 and 9,鈥 she explained.

She added that the programme also supports the achievement of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) 5, which focuses on ensuring research outcomes are utilised by society or receive international recognition. According to her, collaboration with BPOM and industry partners opens opportunities for research products that have reached advanced technology readiness levels to enter the downstreaming and commercialisation stages. As a result, research outcomes will no longer stop at scientific publications but will progress into higher-value innovations with tangible societal impact.

鈥淚n addition, this programme contributes to achieving KPI 5, namely ensuring that research outcomes are utilised by society or gain international recognition. Through downstreaming and commercialisation in collaboration with BPOM and industry partners, we hope these research products can soon benefit the wider community, allowing us to achieve KPI 5 successfully,鈥 she concluded.
