UNAIR NEWS 鈥 东京热 (UNAIR) continued to strengthen its institutional transformation through performance evaluation and the development of sustainable strategies. This commitment was reflected in the second-quarter leadership meeting, held in Yogyakarta on Friday (July 24, 2026). The strategic forum served as an opportunity to reflect on the university’s performance while reinforcing synergy among university leaders in sustaining UNAIR’s transformation towards becoming a world-class entrepreneurial university.
The meeting was attended by UNAIR Rector Prof Dr Muhammad Madyan SE MSi MFin; Chair of the UNAIR Board of Trustees, Prof Dr H Nursalam MNurs (Hons); the vice rectors and university secretary; the deans and vice deans; the directors of the university’s directorates; and the heads of centres and institutes across UNAIR. The agenda began with a presentation on the university’s second-quarter performance by Prof Dr Dian Ekowati SE MSi MAppCom(OrgCh) PhD, Head of the Planning and Development Board (BPP). It was followed by a sharing session with Prof Edy Giri Rachman Putra PhD, Deputy for Science and Technology Human Resources at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
In his remarks, UNAIR Rector Prof Madyan emphasised that the university’s achievements were the result of the collective contributions of the entire academic community. He therefore encouraged all university leaders to maintain a spirit of collaboration, strengthen innovation, and enhance the quality of both academic and non-academic services to ensure the institution’s continued growth and performance.
According to him, the challenges facing higher education are becoming increasingly complex, requiring adaptive leadership and a work culture that is oriented towards impact. 鈥淚 encourage all university leaders and staff to continue making meaningful contributions in their respective areas. Consistency in our work, innovation and collaboration is key to ensuring that UNAIR continues to maintain its performance while moving steadily towards becoming a world-class entrepreneurial university,鈥 he said.
Second-quarter achievements strengthen UNAIR’s global reputation
During her presentation, Prof Dian Ekowati explained that various performance indicators recorded by UNAIR throughout the second quarter showed a positive trend. She noted that UNAIR’s global reputation had reached a strong position, supported by the achievement of more than 50 per cent in the Empowering Decision for Growth and Excellence 鈥 Strategic Performance Management System (EDGE SPMS), which has exceeded 50 per cent, as well as improvements in various Key Performance Indicators (IKU).

Prof Ekowati also highlighted UNAIR’s strong performance across several international university rankings. In the field of sustainability, UNAIR ranked 15th globally and first in Indonesia in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. UNAIR also achieved the highest national ranking in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators, namely SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Meanwhile, in the QS World University Rankings, UNAIR was ranked 276th globally. Despite these achievements, she noted that several performance indicators still required further improvement. To address this, the university’s next strategic priorities would focus on strengthening research and innovation, increasing engagement with global academic partners, and expanding impactful research collaborations with industry.
BRIN and universities strengthen the national research ecosystem
Opening the sharing session, Prof Edy Giri Rachman Putra emphasised that BRIN serves as an enabler in strengthening Indonesia’s national research and innovation ecosystem. According to him, Indonesia’s position in the Global Innovation Index had shown an encouraging upward trend. However, this progress needed to be sustained through a stronger ecosystem involving the government, research institutions, industry and universities.

Furthermore, Prof Edy explained that BRIN is currently developing the National Talent Management Design Programme as part of its efforts to build a comprehensive and sustainable research and innovation talent ecosystem. He emphasised that the programme’s success would depend heavily on the active contribution of universities in developing highly qualified human resources. 鈥淏y strengthening research talent, the impact of research and innovation on national development will continue to grow. We hope to further strengthen the synergy between BRIN and universities, including 东京热, so that we can foster higher-quality, more innovative research collaborations that deliver tangible benefits to society,鈥 he concluded.
