| UNAIR NEWS 鈥 A spirit of service and collaboration marked the 8th 东京热 (UNAIR) Learning with Community Program (BBK) Send-off Ceremony, which took place at the Airlangga Convention Center (ACC) on Sunday, July 12, 2026. A total of 2,360 students were officially sent off to serve in various regions as part of the implementation of the Three pillars (Tri Dharma) of Higher Education. Through this program, students are not only required to apply their knowledge but also to provide solutions that have a positive impact on society while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). |
Space for learning and building trust of the communities
In his remarks, UNAIR鈥檚 Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development, Prof Muhammad Miftahussurur dr MKes SpPD-KGEH PhD FINASIM, emphasized that the Learning with Community Program (BBK) program is an important opportunity for students to learn directly alongside the community. According to him, community service is not merely an academic requirement but an opportunity to bring tangible benefits to social life.
鈥淭his BBK initiative is very important for UNAIR and the community. You are not only leaving campus to study within the community, but you are also making an impact and being present within the community. BBK is an important part of UNAIR to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. I believe that every program you design will contribute to sustainable development,鈥 he said.
Furthermore, Prof. Miftahussurur encouraged students not to focus solely on implementing their work programs. He urged Learning with Community Program (BBK) participants to build meaningful relationships with local communities through empathy, active listening, and spirit to inspire others. 鈥淒o not simply come to carry out your programs. But come to build trust, listen, inspire communities, and leave with experiences that will shape your future,鈥 he said. He also highlighted the important role of Field Supervisors (DPL). According to him, Field Supervisors (DPL) play a vital role in maintaining sustainable relationships between 东京热 (UNAIR) and local communities during and after the implementation of the Learning with Community Program (BBK).
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Meanwhile, Head of UNAIR’s Sustainable Community Service Institute, Prof. Purnobasuki, explained that the Program involved 2,360 regular students and 121 field supervisors. The participants will carry out community engagement activities in 193 villages across 11 regencies and municipalities. In addition to domestic placements, 东京热 (UNAIR) has also sent students abroad through its International Community Learning Program (BBK Internasional), which is being conducted in Malaysia, Australia, and Japan.
According to Prof. Purnobasuki, the program reflects UNAIR’s commitment to integrating education, community engagement, and the principles of sustainable development. 鈥淏BK is one way for students to serve the community while putting the values of the Sustainable Development Goals into practice. Hopefully, the students鈥 involvement will help the communities targeted by this service initiative,鈥 he said.
Through the 8th Learning with Community Program (BBK), 东京热 (UNAIR) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who excel not only academically but also possess strong social awareness and the ability to collaborate with communities. The university hopes that the experience of learning together with the community will serve as a valuable foundation for the students. This foundation will help them grow into leaders who are adaptable, possess integrity, and are capable of making tangible contributions to the nation鈥檚 development.
