UNAIR NEWS – Fariani Syahrul, a doctor born in Malang is very concerned with health issues of school children, especially elementary school (SD).聽Why?聽Children are the next generation and strategic development assets, she said.
Based on that idea, the S3 student of Faculty of Public Health (FKM) conducted a research for her dissertation about ” Predictive Model of Microbes in Feces (聽Diarrheagenic Escherichia Coli聽) through Foodborne Diseases聽Transmission in Primary School Children”.聽And, she graduated as the best graduate with 3.98 GPA.
”听Foodborne Diseases聽(FBDs) is one of the major health issues especially for children.聽This type of FBDs is a major problem in children.聽One of them is diarrhea that can actually be prevented, ” she explained.
Her research produced a predictive model on the presence of DEC bacteria in the feces of a child in the form of mathematical formula from the the snack and its frequency in school.聽The frequency factor of school snacks is very important in estimating DEC bacteria.聽It can be used as “early warning”聽against the occurrence of聽Foodborne Disease聽in children.
The secretary of Epidemiology S-2 Program FKM UNAIR, Fariani is a housewife and hoped to finished her study on time.聽Therefore, time management was needed.
“When I was in college, I got a permit to study.聽So I have to perform my duty as a lecturer, teaching at least 12 SKS / year, advising, and examining.聽So the challenge and the biggest obstacle was time, ” she explained.
But she managed to work on it, all lecturers’ duties must be completed on campus.聽Then his assignments were done at home once her obligation was over.
In the future, she hoped to be a professor.聽On the other hand, as a researcher, the result of the dissertation becomes the聽starting point聽to develop other related researches as well as the community service.聽As a mother, she wants to be a good example for children and see them successful in study and life, both world and hereafter.聽(*)
