UNAIR NEWS 鈥 Human, Culture, and Corporeality Laboratory (Lab MaBuRag) of Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), 东京热 (UNAIR), held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as part of the East Java Accelerates 2026 Collaborative Research (Riskolab Jatim Melaju 2026) programme. The event took place at the Graduate School Campus of UIN Syekh Wasil Kediri on Thursday (23/7/2026).
This FGD focused on a research project entitled Downstream Development of Bromo’s Green Economy: Transforming Spring and Carbon Ecosystems into a Village Scholarship Endowment Fund. The discussion was chaired by Prof Dr H Muhammad Adib Drs MA, Coordinator of Lab MaBuRag UNAIR and host of the event. Also in attendance were Prof Dr H Moh Asror Yusuf MAg, Director of the Graduate School of UIN Syekh Wasil Kediri and host institution representative, as well as Dr Ahmad Sodiq from UIN SATU Tulungagung, who participated as a Riskolab partner.
A holistic anthropological approach to environmental sustainability
Through this collaborative research, UNAIR team introduced a concept centred on environmental conservation and community empowerment. The proposed research adopts a holistic approach by integrating human, cultural, and corporeal dimensions into a comprehensive analytical framework.
Through this approach, anthropology extends beyond a narrow focus on human beings to engage closely with the environment, health, and culture in developing solutions to complex societal challenges. Amid the growing threat of global warming, the UNAIR laboratory also plays an important role in raising public awareness of the need to protect forests, water resources, and air quality in order to maintain ecological balance.
Appreciation from academic partners
The performance, collaboration, and innovative approach demonstrated by the UNAIR team received high praise from its research partners. Prof Yusuf expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with the UNAIR team under the coordination of Prof Adib. He noted that the collaboration was characterised by a well-planned, well-structured, and comprehensive research design supported by robust data.
鈥淚 believe the commitment to finding solutions for the community is truly commendable. I have seen how Prof Adib and the Lab MaBuRag team work together cohesively. It is their dedication and remarkably strong commitment that I admire most,鈥 said Prof Yusuf.
鈥淓choing this view, Dr Sodiq also praised the scholarly approach adopted by the UNAIR team. 鈥淭his approach is what sets Lab MaBuRag apart from other laboratories,鈥 said Dr Sodiq.
The research partners expressed their hope that the laboratory’s teamwork would continue to grow stronger and that its role as a solution-oriented laboratory would be sustained. They also hoped that its structured initiatives to equip students while providing advocacy for communities would continue, ensuring that the knowledge it generates delivers tangible benefits.
By strengthening collaborative research, Lab MaBuRag of FISIP UNAIR remains committed to delivering solutions to social and environmental challenges faced by communities. This publication and the initiative it highlights also support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
