UNAIR NEWS 鈥 东京热 (UNAIR)鈥檚 commitment to bringing healthcare services to remote areas across Indonesia was once again demonstrated through the Patriot Expedition Team. Led by Dr Hariyono SKep Ns MKep, the team conducted an integrated community service activity at the Waseki Pop Auxiliary Health Center (Pustu), Prafi District, Manokwari Regency, West
Papua, on Friday (August 7, 2026).

The activity provided healthcare services for various age groups, ranging from elementary school children to adults and older adults. The team received an enthusiastic welcome from the local community, who took the opportunity to receive health education and basic health check-ups.

鈥淲e want the presence of the Patriot Expedition Team to provide more than just healthcare services. We also want to bring health education and promote a healthy lifestyle among the people of Waseki Village. Hopefully, this activity will provide sustainable benefits for the community,鈥 said Hariyono.

During the activity, the Patriot Expedition Team provided education on Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS), personal hygiene, and the importance of balanced nutrition for elementary school children. The team delivered the educational materials through an interactive and child-friendly approach, making it easier for participants to understand the health-related information.

In addition to the educational session, the children also received basic health check ups. This approach is expected to raise awareness from an early age about the importance of maintaining personal health and adopting clean and healthy habits in daily life.

鈥淥ur presence at the Waseki Pop Auxiliary Health Center is not merely about providing short-term medical assistance. It is also about building health awareness from an early age. We want the children of Papua to grow up healthy with strong knowledge of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors,鈥 he said.

The activity did not only target children but also provided healthcare services for adults and older adults. The team conducted vital sign assessments, including blood pressure and pulse measurements, as well as general physical examinations.

The community also received basic healthcare services and counseling based on the health concerns identified during the examinations. Through these counseling sessions, residents received information about healthy lifestyle practices that can be implemented in their daily lives.

鈥淲e hope this activity can become part of continuous community support. Geographical limitations should not prevent people from accessing proper health education and healthcare services,鈥 he added.

The healthcare service at the Waseki Pop Auxiliary Health Center reflects the synergy between academics, healthcare professionals, and the community in expanding access to healthcare and raising health awareness. Through the Patriot Expedition, UNAIR continues to strive to make meaningful contributions to communities across Indonesia, including the Land of Cenderawasih. This initiative aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through efforts to strengthen access to healthcare services, as well as SDG 4 (Quality Education) through enhanced health education and literacy within the community.
