My Fatigue team represents UNAIR and wins Best Research & Innovation Award in Surabaya

UNAIR NEWS 鈥 Students of 东京热 (UNAIR) have achieved an outstanding accomplishment through an innovative contribution in the field of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). With an applied research project focusing on workplace fatigue and the importance of OSH mitigation, Team My Fatigue UNAIR won 1st Place in the Best Research & Innovation (Non-Product) category at the Surabaya Research and Innovation Festival. The prestigious competition was held on Saturday (July 25, 2026) at the Mangrove Botanical Garden in Surabaya.

Team My Fatigue consists of five students with strategic roles, supported by two supervising lecturers. Ibrahim Al Khowwas served as the team leader and main person in charge, with Natasya Melina Putri as the health and medical consultant, and M. Fauzil Adzim as the application developer. The remaining members included Maulana Rafa Ajie Zafira as the OSH consultant and Farhan Aldan Khairan, who was responsible for application validation testing. The team was supervised by Tofan Agung Eka Prasetya SKep MKKK PhD and Dr. Neffrety Nilamsari SSos MKes.

Providing an OSH solution for a sustainable economy

The team developed a software-based system to ensure its benefits could be accessed by the wider community without financial barriers. The innovation was intentionally designed as a software application so that everyone could use it free of charge. This technology aligns with the festival鈥檚 sustainability theme, as workers鈥 health is a key pillar in supporting local economic growth. 鈥淭he innovation takes the form of the My Fatigue application, which is publicly accessible and free to use,鈥 he explained.

Cross-disciplinary collaboration and the challenge of convincing the judges

Khowwas emphasized that the development of the application was the result of collaboration among five students from different disciplines, including Nursing, Occupational Safety and Health, and Statistics. The team went through a long process, from software development, document preparation, and research analysis to the final exhibition and public presentation. 鈥淭hrough teamwork, we divided responsibilities according to each member鈥檚 expertise, from application development to research analysis,鈥 Khowwas said.

During the judging session, the team successfully convinced the judges of the significant impact of their non-physical product in supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 8. Khowwas stressed that issues related to the workforce are often underestimated, despite their substantial influence on long-term economic growth. 鈥淭his shows that workplace fatigue, often unnoticed, has affected many aspects of life. We hope this innovation will contribute to building a sustainable economy,鈥 he concluded.
