HIMA Lingua strengthens children’s literacy at Tante Djie Reading House

UNAIR NEWS 鈥 HIMA Lingua of the Master鈥檚 Program in Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities (FIB), 东京热 (UNAIR), organized its Community Service Program on Monday (July 19, 2026) at Tante Djie Reading House in Surabaya.

Inspired by the spirit of 鈥淟anguage Connects, Literacy Empowers,鈥 the program featured a variety of educational and interactive activities, including English & Arabic Fun Learning, Read Aloud sessions, games, coloring activities, as well as the distribution of door prizes and books.

鈥淭his program marks the first step in creating meaningful contributions to the community through language and literacy,鈥 said Ahmad Imron, Chair of HIMA Lingua UNAIR.

Books donated by various contributors were presented to Tante Djie Reading House through HIMA Lingua UNAIR. The initiative is expected to expand children’s access to quality reading materials.

Imron explained that the program represents the first step toward making meaningful contributions to society through literacy and language. According to him, the initiative has successfully created a positive impact on both the children and the local community while promoting the value of literacy. 鈥淓specially for children today, whose reading habits are gradually declining,鈥 he added.

The Head of the Master鈥檚 Program in Linguistics at FIB UNAIR, Noerhayati Ika Putri SS MA PhD, expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome from the management of Tante Djie Reading House and the dedication shown by HIMA Lingua. She hopes HIMA Lingua will continue to initiate meaningful programs in the future.

鈥淭hank you to Tante Djie Reading House for giving HIMA Lingua the opportunity to share reading activities, games, and educational experiences with the children of Peneleh. We hope to meet them again and bring even more enjoyable activities in the future,鈥 she said.

The program also received a positive response from Ellen, the manager of Tante Djie Reading House. She expressed her sincere appreciation for the students鈥 initiative and contribution. 鈥淭hank you to HIMA Lingua for choosing Tante Djie Reading House as a partner in this community empowerment program. We hope our long-term collaboration will continue,鈥 she said.

Looking ahead, the 2026 HIMA Lingua Community Service Program is expected to become the beginning of a sustainable collaboration between UNAIR and Tante Djie Reading House in strengthening literacy culture from an early age.
