“Burnout” in Productive Age

UNAIR NEWS –聽The great volume of work often leads to prolonged stress.聽No doubt, this condition is often overlooked because it is only considered a stressful condition that should not be feared.聽In fact, stress actually has a threshold.聽If it is left unchecked, it can lead to Burnout symptoms.

The term Burnout may sound unfamiliar.聽Therefore, at the commemoration of International Mental Health Day, which is commemorated on October 10, a number of doctors from the Department of Mental Health RSUD FK -RSUD Dr.聽Soetomo held a campaign to disseminate Burnout at work.

Dozens of doctors walked in a group distributing pamphlets and a rose to employees and lecturers around Dr. Soetomo General Hospital and the medical school.

“Burnout is a theme set by WHO for this year’s anniversary,” said Nalini Muhdi Agung Sp.KJ (K).

In the context of psychiatric illness, burnout means extreme fatigue syndrome in physical, mental, and emotional states.聽Burnout can occur due to accumulating stress for a long time.

According to Nalini, Burnout in workplaces often occurs in the line of work that involves providing services to others, such as health workers in hospitals, policemen, doctors, teachers and journalists.聽Although this syndrome can also be experienced by other workers in other types of professions.

Until now, there is no definitive data that mentions the type of work that triggers the most fatigue.聽However, some of the previously mentioned professions mostly trigger fatigue syndrome.

Burnout is generally caused by work situations which do not support or fit the needs and expectations.聽If it is allowed to drag on, without us knowing, the productivity and performance can decrease, ” she said.

This syndrome can infect anyone with no certain age range.聽Because it involves the workplace, then this syndrome most experienced by workers of productive age, ie between the ages of 25-50 years.聽When a person experiences Burnout, he or she often feels frustrated, depressed, apathetic, easily bored, withdraws from the social environment, and becomes a rude person.

If it is left unchecked, the disorder causes depression and excessive anxiety.聽The condition has been categorized as severe.聽If it is severe, then it is necessary to see a psychiatrist.

Therefore, relaxation is necessary.聽It does not have to be expensive, enough with some laughter to reduce fatigue.

“Laughter is even better.聽People should laugh at least six minutes each day.聽This method also needs to be balanced with a healthy lifestyle, enough rest and regular exercise, ” she said.

One more way that is considered important by Nalini is to make聽me time聽.

Work Should be important to you, but it is not your whole life聽.聽Take annual leave, go on vacation and do anything that can make you happy, ” she said.
