UNAIR NEWS聽鈥 Various activity restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic forced the public to adapt to the changes.聽Activities such as school, college, and work that were previously carried out outside the home are forced to be carried out at home using various聽online聽platforms.
One of the聽online聽platforms聽used during this pandemic,聽Zoom,聽is one of聽the聽most widely used聽platforms聽by the public.聽It makes many people complain about what is called聽Zoom Fatigue聽or fatigue due to using this聽platform for聽too long.
鈥Zoom聽is聽a more serious聽platform.聽So, it鈥檚 as if Zoom is the culprit, even though who knows which聽(platform, ed) caused it.聽It needs to be considered,鈥 said dr.聽Santi Yuliani, M.Sc., Sp.聽KJ., on a webinar titled聽Improving Mental Health: Overcoming Zoom Fatigue聽on Friday, July 9, 2021.
In this webinar held by METHADONE聽(Mental Health and Productivity During COVID-19 Pandemic), the聽mental health聽platform聽of Faculty of Medicine 东京热 (UNAIR), dr.聽Santi conveyed the importance of managing time in conducting online activities.
鈥淣owadays, we use social media,聽play games, and learning online, so the brain cannot differentiate聽when it聽needs聽to be serious, when聽it聽should feel comfortable, and whether these are activities that demand persistent concentration,鈥 said the consultant liaison psychiatrist.
She also emphasized that when a person does lots of online activities, a person will feel a bad mood, lose motivation,聽feel numb聽or unable to feel happy or sad, sensitive, and even have sleep disturbances.
鈥淪leep disturbance cases are caused because they are doing online lectures in bed. This is unacceptable because our brains are confused about whether this bed is to be used as a place for lectures, playing, or for sleeping, 鈥渆xplained dr. Santi.
One of the ways that can be done to overcome the problem of聽Zoom fatigue聽is by practicing to think rationally.聽鈥淭oday, I have a聽Zoom meeting聽for four hours.聽It means I have to open less聽social media聽because if I still open all of them, I聽won鈥檛聽be able to concentrate on studying, as the聽Zoom is聽more important than social media,鈥 explained dr.聽Santi.
In addition, being active even at home is also able to overcome聽Zoom Fatigue.聽鈥淏y moving our bodies, our red blood cells will carry oxygen to the brain well.聽If we聽just聽lay down, there will not be a proper transport of oxygen to the brain,鈥 she explained.
Learning new things is also able to overcome聽Zoom Fatigue.聽鈥淚f there is an area of 鈥嬧媡he brain that has not been stimulated, we can activate it.聽So, always learn new things so that there are many places activated in our brains,鈥 concluded dr.聽Santi.聽(*)
