UNAIR NEWS – UNAIR Teaching Industry Stem Cell and Metabolite Stem Cell was inaugurated by Minister of Technology and Higher Education Research Prof. Muhammad Nasir on Wednesday, July 11.
Located in the building of Institute of Tropical Diseases (LPT), Campus C , Menristekdikti was welcomed by Rector UNAIR Prof. Nasih along with other leadership such as the Chairman of Center for Research and Development of Stem Cell (P3SP) dr. Purwati, Sp.PD., K-PTI., FINASIM.
In her speech, dr. Purwati said that UNAIR P3SP is one of the supporting elements of UNAIR which has the main task of doing research and development in the field of stem cell and stem cell related products. According to her, stem cells become a new hope for the medical world when the development of international medical treatment shifted from syntetic to biological. And it is in line with the industrial revolution 4.0.
“There are 3 institutions that play a role in Teaching Industry P3SP. Kemenristekdikti, in related to grant funds, P3SP related to technology transfer, and industrial world as a downstream media, ” she said.
Next, dr. Purwati said that based on calculations from related institutions and from FEB UNAIR, within 16 years, P3SP could generate Rp. 18.6 trillion net income.
“In addition, P3SP also creates books that will be modules and distributed to campuses as the basis for stem cell production. In addition to the book, P3SP team also publishes journals and holds workshops on stem cell, ” she explained.
Meanwhile, responding to dr. Purwati, Menristekdikti advised that high achievement of science does not necessarily close itself. P3SP and UNAIR are requested to be open and continue to develop stem cells.
“In the field, many pharmaceutical manufacturers want to develop stem cells but fail because they do not cooperate with universities,” said Prof. Nasir.
Responding to P3SP cooperation with Phapros, M. Nasir asserted to collaborate with Food and Drug Monitoring Agency for more growth. Therefore, Food and Drug Monitoring Agency is required to know the process from the input to the output. Then, in 2018 the government has allocated a budget of Rp. 9.3 Billion for stem cell development.
“Thus, hopefully the stem cell that has been built UNAIR will really be useful for researchers and industries who will use it. And all will get better value, “he explained. “Congratulations to UNAIR who has teaching industry stem cell and hopefully the future develops well,” he concluded.
