UNAIR NEWS 鈥撀鈥檚 achievements聽in UI GreenMetric recently cannot be separated from the supports of all the faculties, including from some innovations that have been and will be realized.
UNAIR is included in the top 15 best campuses in Indonesia in the UI Green Metric 2020 version. Regarding this achievement,聽Director of Logistics, Security, Order and Environment聽that this time his聽聽involves all faculties, especially related to the campus facilities and infrastructures.
鈥淲e involve all faculties, so all Vice Dean II are involved because it is related to the provision of facilities and infrastructure,鈥 he explained during an interview, Monday, May 10, 2021.
From the faculty involvement, Karnaji said, there were several notable innovations related to the GreenMetric.聽One of them is the聽speed聽bump聽as a power source from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) as well as Covid-19 Prevention innovations from the Faculty of Medicine (FK).
鈥淔rom the energy aspect, we will convert the聽speed track聽energy聽invented by FST students into electrical energy.聽So later we will install it along the road, when the car passes the road, it will move and generate electricity,鈥 he explained.
Although it is still limited as a simple source of electricity, the speed bump installation plan for electricity generator is quite mature. Furthermore, related to energy, UNAIR will also use power from a lake that produces electricity.
On the other hand, Karnaji said that in order to support a sustainable campus, all faculties at UNAIR need to improve. First, through the addition of gardens and gazebos.
鈥淚n every faculty, for example, there is a parking lot, a vertical garden or a mini forest.聽In several faculties, such as FEB, FPK, and FF, we have created a聽rooftop聽garden.聽While at Campus E, Gresik, we will develop the Campus Forest, 鈥渉e said.
Furthermore, the faculty also needs to standardize LED lights;聽replace old lights taking much power;聽start using sensors for lights and water faucets in every toilet, make water conservation;聽ready-to-drink tap water;聽also designed聽Reuse,聽Reduce, Recycle聽programs聽for water, paper, plastic and cardboard.聽If necessary, the budget can be increased to create a faculty that is oriented towards聽sustainability.
Of all the UI Green Metric assessment indicators, the faculty involvement efforts showed outstanding results. Previously, these efforts were still carried out centrally within the Directorate. At that time, UNAIR鈥檚 ranking had increased, although it was not significant.
鈥淭his time we involve all faculties. We assigned all indicators on the faculty. We hope that it can be fulfilled as much as possible, although not all of them, 鈥渉e said.
Faculties鈥 involvement is expected to make achievements at UI GreenMetric as a sustainable campus. It is not only the Directorate鈥檚 tasks, but also all faculties in UNAIR.
At the end, Karnaji hoped that all elements in UNAIR can participate in building a sustainable campus. If possible, he expects all activities in the campus environment to be related to the sustainability of nature, both at the faculty and directorate levels. (*)
