UNAIR NEWS 鈥 东京热 (UNAIR) has been awarded the 2026 National Best Archival Network Award in the Higher Education category from the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI). The recognition was awarded for the university鈥檚 outstanding implementation of the National Archival Information System (SIKN), which met and exceeded national archival management standards.
The award was officially accepted by Prof Dr Radian Salman SH LLM, Director of Human Resources, Talent Management, and Organizational Development, during a ceremony held Wednesday (May 20, 2026) at the ANRI headquarters in Jakarta.
Responding to the achievement, 东京热 Secretary Prof Dr Dwi Setyawan SSi MSi Apt said the recognition should not be viewed as the university鈥檚 final objective. Instead, he described it as a reflection of the collective dedication and contributions of UNAIR鈥檚 academic community in maintaining high standards of archival governance.
鈥淭he award itself is not the ultimate goal, but rather a form of appreciation from ANRI for UNAIR鈥檚 commitment to managing archives properly. This achievement should encourage us to further strengthen the university鈥檚 archival system, including the management of both static and dynamic records,鈥 he said.
Prof. Setyawan emphasized that archival management extends beyond document storage. He noted that effective archives are essential to ensuring public accountability by enabling institutions to provide transparent and accessible records of their activities to society.
Digitalization strengthens public access to information
Over the past several years, UNAIR has intensified efforts to modernize its archival management system. One of its flagship initiatives focuses on the digitalization and classification of records, with the broader aim of integrating scattered archives into a unified data system.
According to him, UNAIR鈥檚 archival governance is supported by a strong institutional ecosystem that includes comprehensive regulations, well-prepared personnel across faculties and administrative units, adequate infrastructure, and sustained policy and financial support.
As part of its commitment to transparency, the university has also launched a Digital Archive Museum at the Airlangga Sharia & Entrepreneurship Education Center (ASEEC). 鈥淭hrough this program, members of the public can directly access a variety of important historical and administrative information,鈥 he explained.
Addressing challenges in archival management
The university鈥檚 path toward national recognition was accompanied by significant challenges. Prof. Setyawan explained that operational transitions on campus, including several building relocations, had previously contributed to the loss of some original archival documents. Another major challenge involved the complexity of digitizing records and establishing a fully integrated archival system across multiple university units.
Nevertheless, through sustained institutional commitment and collaboration across the university, those challenges were gradually addressed. UNAIR continues to encourage collective participation from faculties, administrative offices, and archival divisions to strengthen awareness about preserving document authenticity while ensuring records remain accessible whenever needed.
He added that ANRI鈥檚 objective evaluation further affirmed the importance of proper archival governance as a fundamental institutional necessity rather than merely an administrative requirement. Going forward, every university initiative is expected to contribute directly to strengthening Indonesia鈥檚 national archival system.
鈥淚n line with the vision of 鈥楿NAIR Berdampak,鈥 the ability to provide the public with accurate and trustworthy archival information represents one of the university鈥檚 concrete contributions to society,鈥 he said.
