UNAIR NEWS – Students cannot be separated from research that is developed from literature studies. Therefore, also strives to support this by subscribing to credible data sources.
In this regard, Library Research and Development of 东京热 held an online workshop titled CAS SCIFINDERn on Monday, June 13, 2022. The workshop was led by Ahmadi Jaya Permana, S Si, M Si, lecturer of the Faculty of Science and Technology UNAIR.
According to Ahmadi, CAS SciFindern is an e-resource. A literature source that is considered expensive because of its credibility. 鈥淭hey process literature sources very selectively. It is costly because they are very detailed. Those sources from Google, with millions or thousands of results, are selected and then indexed. The document then is extracted and will be processed to enter the database,鈥 he explained.
The Faculty of Science and Technology lecturer summarised the steps in accessing CAS SciFindern for new users. First, access the official website, click the register page, fill in personal data, and activate an account using e-mail. Furthermore, Ahmadi explained about CAS SciFindern. According to him, CAS SciFindern is directly supervised by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world鈥檚 most prestigious professional organization of chemistry, so its scope is in biochemistry.
鈥淗owever, actually chemistry could enter all fields, so it鈥檚 not limited to chemists who could access this (CAS SciFindern, ed),鈥 he said.
Ahmadi also explained that there are features in CAS SciFindern, that could be used to find references. 鈥淪imilar to keywords in Google, you could just fill it in. Or, if you know the document number, enter, and search, it can be done using this. No need to go through Google,鈥 he revealed.
In the end, he also added that in the keyword search, there is a technique called bulian, that is, adding the word 鈥榓nd鈥, 鈥榦r鈥, and 鈥榥ot鈥 in the middle of a keyword. The purpose is to detail the keyword that was looked for.
鈥淭here is (feature, ed) called Advanced Search Field with three operating words, 鈥榓nd鈥, 鈥榦r鈥, and 鈥榥ot鈥. So you could directly type (keywords, ed) in the search bar, or you could input them from here (Advanced Search Field, ed),鈥 he concluded.
