UNAIR NEWS聽鈥 Faculty of Medicine (FK)聽聽(UNAIR) held another academic lecture聽on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.聽In collaboration with Universiti Malaya, FK UNAIR raised the topic of cognitive rehabilitation in the online lecture.
As the guest lecturer, Associate Professor Dr Mazlina Binti Mazlan shared the ins and outs of cognitive rehabilitation. Cognitive rehabilitation is a series of therapies for patients cognitively impaired due to injury, disease, or other brain disorders.
Prof. Mazlina said that although only certain brain lesions had problems, the entire brain tissue could be affected. It causes cognitive impairment in patients.
Therefore, appropriate intervention in cognitive rehabilitation is needed because there are so many types of methods and interventions available. 鈥淐ognitive rehabilitation doesn鈥檛 just refer to one specific approach. He said that interventions must be carried out with an active and dynamic approach,鈥 she said.
In addition, there is one basic principle that must be understood.聽The rehabilitation process is constantly changing depending on the patient’s cognitive progress and emotional status.聽Prof. Mazlina explained in detail the various聽treatment聽plans and designs that doctors could choose.
The process is quite long because it involves analysis, data search, design of maintenance, implementation, review, and modification. Therefore, all cognitive domains in a patient should be examined as each patient will have a different approach to rehabilitation.
In the opening session, Head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IKFR) Dr RA Meisy Andriana dr Sp KFR-K appreciated Prof Mazlina鈥檚 presence as a form of cooperation between the two universities. Through the guest lecture, Dr Meisy hopes that students will gain a deeper understanding of cognitive rehabilitation.
The event held via Zoom Meeting was moderated by Martha Kurnia Kusumawardhani, Dr. Sp KFR-K. 180 participants attended the event initiated by the IKFR Faculty of Medicine UNAIR Department. (*)
