UNAIR NEWS 鈥聽Dharma Wanita Persatuan 东京热 held a seminar on 鈥淚ncreasing Understanding and Anticipation of Virtual Crime Through Privacy Literacy鈥 in Parlina Room, 3rd floor of 东京热 Library, Dharmawangsa (B) Campus on Friday, July 8, 2022.
Director of Information Systems and Digitalization, Yunus Abdul Halim S Si M Kom, said that in the digital era, personal data theft using various methods is increasing. It is very detrimental to users because third parties can use personal information. So we must anticipate illegal access to our data.
鈥淚n this digital age, there are various types of data theft cases on the internet, ranging from聽scamware聽to聽phishing,鈥 he said.
No free services on the Internet
Yunus said of there are various free services available on the Internet.聽However, the services records personal data in the background.聽This information is widely used in meeting聽marketing聽needs in cyberspace.
鈥淲e pay with our data, starting from the location,聽IP address, to the things (keywords) that we often look for in search browsers,鈥 he said.
Pay attention to the Terms and Conditions
Each service has terms and conditions for various data that service providers can access.聽By agreeing to the聽terms聽of the service, they can access their personal data.聽Therefore, we must re-check the聽terms and conditions聽of the services.
鈥淭he arrangements must be re-checked to avoid inappropriate data leaks,鈥 he said.
Turn off features or services when not in use
Some services use additional features such as camera or GPS access. So to avoid data leaks, we can disable features we do not use.
鈥淲e can just turn off some features when not in use to avoid data recording,鈥 he explained.
鈥淭he important thing is that we don鈥檛 have to be afraid and worried about the things that happen. However, we must block every important access to our personal data such as credit cards, ATMs, and M-banking,鈥 he concluded.
