UNAIR NEWS – The collaboration of two big start-ups created by the nation’s best minds, Gojek and Tokopedia, is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the millions of MSMEs collaborating with them. Go To group is predicted to create efficiency as well as new opportunities for MSMEs. Dr.Wasiaturrahma, macroeconomics expert at ������ believes that this megamerger will expand Indonesia’s digital economy ecosystem.

She said that MSMEs under Gojek and Tokopedia would get a golden opportunity thanks to this megamerger because the collaboration involves merging the board of directors and systems and combining MSMEs and customers of both start-ups. “Businesses that only exist on Tokopedia can now be marketed through Gojek, and vice versa, Gojek customers also have the opportunity to become Tokopedia consumers,” she said.

In addition to market expansion, she added, the acceleration of MSME’s digitalization process will result in the efficiency of Indonesia’s digital economy ecosystem. From the macroeconomic point of view, Wasiaturrahma revealed the influence of the market expansion. “This is very influential on the macroeconomy, of course, because the MSME marketing process itself can help with exposure and reach,” she concluded.

Although in the short term, the technology giant group with the largest valuation in Southeast Asia has not had a big impact on Indonesia, the impact will be felt on MSMEs. “It means that although the short-term impact will be seen through MSMEs, the impact on Indonesia will not be seen drastically soon, but slowly it will improve,” she said. It will take some time to see the long-term impact of MSMEs’ revival.

With the expansion of market reach and increasing demand, MSMEs will increase their production power as they need labor and production capital. It will encourage the expansion of employment opportunities, increase purchasing power, and continuously increase economic growth and GDP. “So I am optimistic that, apart from benefiting MSME actors, it will also gradually promote the welfare of the people in Indonesia,” said the UNAIR Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) lecturer.
