UNAIR NEWS – A lot of preparations must be made to be able to study abroad. In this regard, Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE)  has held 2023  IISMA Bootcamp to assist prospective awardees of 2023 IISMA. The bootcamp was held online at Hotel Santika Premiere Gubeng on November 12-13, 2022.
Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) is a scholarship program organized by the government that provides opportunities for students to study at top foreign universities.
At this IISMA bootcamp, Adibah was invited to present Motivation Letter 101 material. Adibah is an alumna of the English Literature Study Program of ¶«¾©ÈÈ and has won three prestigious scholarships: the Fulbright Program, the ASEAN University Network and the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study.
On this occasion, Adibah gave tips on how to make a good motivation letter. With a motivation letter, scholarship organizers can see our background and become an important assessment in scholarship selection.
In writing the motivation letter, Adibah advised the participants to research universities of their choice, the scholarship provider’s vision and mission and follow the scholarship provider’s guidelines.
Furthermore, after doing research, the motivation letter must be a brief and clear self-reflection. It can also work as personal branding to attract scholarship selectors.
Strong personal branding is key in writing motivation letters, where we can give an excellent first impression on scholarship management.
Adibah added, apart from personal branding, prospective awardees must show that they have a problem solving spirit, surviving spirit reflected in the motivation letter. “Don’t hesitate to ask for help from last year’s awardees to help you proofread the letter. Besides being able to make it easier for you, alums can be your mentor if you experience difficulties, “concluded Adibah.
