UNAIR NEWS – Joko Widodo’s administration has been running for several years. The field of economy is certainly changing. However, there are still many shortcomings that need to be improved and optimized.
In order to discuss the performance of the administration of Joko Widodo, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) held a guest lecture entitled “Economic Policy of Jokowi’s Administration”. The speaker was the CEO of Mayapada Group Prof. Dr. Dato’ Sri Tahir, MBA and Prof. Dr. Arsono Laksamana, SE., Ak., CPA., CA.
“On this occasion, we are honored with the presence of the figure that should be heard and he will present values for us. He is an international entrepreneur focusing on building Indonesia’s economy. Besides, he also contributes in formulating policies in Indonesia, “said Dean of FEB UNAIR Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE., M.Si., Ak, in his speech.
In a guest lecture on Monday, February 12, Tahir explained the current economic condition, including his track record for several years back. In addition, he said that in this era of globalization that knows no borders like today, Indonesia must be able to change.
Indonesia should not exploit cheap labor anymore but the qualified and professional worker and well paid. It is not good in the long run.
“I hope for the next five years, there are no longer Indonesian people working as household maids, but they become workers in hotels and shops or nurses, “he added
During the leadership of Joko Widodo, Tahir viewed that the program of 16 packages of economic stimulus policy is good. However, he continued, the implementation still needs an improvement as the results have not been seen.
The output often found inconsistent with the plan considered and it is often considered as the error of the plan. But in reality, it was the implementation which is incorrect. Tahir also provided a view related to the future sector that can be optimized by Indonesia such as oil palm, minerals, and tourism.
“Oil palm is the largest non-oil commodity. Indonesia is granted by the abundant mineral and the wealth of tourism and culture. All three will be the strength of the Indonesian economy, “he said.
“I view this country as a heaven, but why can’t it be developed. Do not blame others, but start from ourselves. We are a great nation, but millennial generation must help to build, ” said Tahir.
Optimizing Technological Mastery
Millennial generation has some advantage, their technological mastery is higher than the previous generation. Efforts to build the nation can be done through it, such as by spreading optimism, working hard and being creative and innovative.
According to Tahir, Indonesia needs to facilitate vocational studies especially for the millennial generation so they can be active. They can be work in a more practical way. “By developing the vocational studies in all universities in Indonesia,” he added. (*)
