UNAIR NEWS –聽In principle, Airlangga Disease Prevention and Research Center (ADPRC) is handled by three faculties, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), the Faculty of Medicine (FK), and the Faculty of Public Health (FKM).
Why?聽Because those three faculties directly manage human health, animals, and environment.聽Animal health and environment condition are also important because there can be diseases from these two sources which endanger humans as well.
However, ADPRC cannot go faster if it is not supported by other faculties.聽Because synergy among the faculties is the key to the success of this research center.聽“In the initial management structure there are also academics from FISIP (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences).聽In the future, management must be developed and involved other faculties as well, “said Prof.聽Dr. Suwarno, secretary of the ADPRC.
He said that there are so many diseases that arise due to social problems.聽Thus, the discipline of social sciences, even culture and psychology, are also needed for review.聽Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Science and Technology will definitely have their roles besides faculties related to medicine and other health.
“We also need a study from economic experts.聽Because, in a study of a disease, how much the聽costs of聽the disease should also be observed, ” Prof.聽Dr.聽Fedik Abdul Rantam, the coordinator of ADPRC added.
With a study of economic aspects, the urgency of disease prevention will be more visible concretely.聽Therefore, the presence of the disease in society will not only interfere physical health but it also becomes a problem financially.
One of the board members in the initial structure is Toetik Kurbardiati, PhD from FISIP.聽Currently, Toetik is listed as one of the managers at ADPRC, as a Communication and Network Advisor.聽According to Prof.聽Fedik, while conducting anthropology studies in Germany and the Netherlands, Toetik was also required to study biology.聽Therefore, there is a correlation between anthropology and biology.聽“The spread of the disease can also be viewed from an anthropological perspective,” Fedik said.
Fedik explained, synergy between the faculties of has been a culture.聽Thus, it facilitates any work program created by the institution or center of existing scientific studies.聽(*)
