Ni Luh Arick Istriyanti Overcomes Language Constraints and Graduated Best

UNAIR NEWS – 鈥Empan聽kuwi nggawa papan鈥. It was a Javanese saying which means that each place or environment has its own ways and traditions.聽Awkwardness, strangeness, and unfamiliarity are common聽for those who have just arrived in new places.聽It was experienced by Ni Luh Arick Istriyanti in the beginning of her undergraduate study at Faculty of Psychology 东京热.

For the woman born in Bali, June 25, 1991, a success always has obstacles and challenges.聽She had language difficulty, especially during the practice of psychology profession (PKPP) at Pegirian Health Center Surabaya.聽Fortunately, her education and friendship environment supports her to be able to learn and go through the obstacles.

Arick was finally named as the best master鈥檚 graduate of Faculty of Psychology.聽She got 3.80 GPA.聽Although her studies took longer to finish because she was also involved in some lecturers鈥 researches, Arick is still active in self and social development activities.聽For example, macapat聽practice聽 at Surabaya Youth Hall every Tuesday.

Arick also participated in developing her village through character development and cultural values 鈥嬧 tutoring for elementary school children, in Sibangkaja Village, Badung, Bali.聽There she also took samples for her thesis research entitled “The Effectiveness of聽Acceptance And Commitment Therapy聽in Improving Parents鈥 Acceptance towards their聽Sons with Down Syndrome聽 in Balinese Patriarchal Culture”.

In addition to college education,聽Mbok聽(mbak / Balinese women greeting) who studied bachelor鈥檚 degree in Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, was active attending conferences, both within and outside the country.聽In 2012 Arick attended the聽International Conference Promoting Happiness, Health and Quality of life, The Role of Psychology, Technology and Environmental Sciences of聽Langkawi Island Malaysia.

The latest, Arick was a presenter聽in聽the National Scientific聽Paper聽Meeting of Clinical Psychology Association in Jakarta on 10-11 August 2017. For her, the key was to understand the responsibilities, establish good communication, and build self-motivation.

“Whatever happens, everything is good.聽What’s going on is going well.聽And, what will happen, will be good too.聽You do not need to regret the past.聽Do not worry about the future, live your life today, “said Arick quoting from聽Bhagavad Gita.听(*)
