{"id":401689,"date":"2026-06-03T14:45:56","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T07:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/youth-led-innovation-seen-as-key-to-energy-transition-and-sustainable-transportation\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T09:50:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T02:50:27","slug":"youth-led-innovation-seen-as-key-to-energy-transition-and-sustainable-transportation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/youth-led-innovation-seen-as-key-to-energy-transition-and-sustainable-transportation\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth-led innovation seen as key to energy transition and sustainable transportation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 东京热 (<a href=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/\">UNAIR<\/a>), through its Directorate of Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), in partnership with Indonesia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted the Preliminary Discussion of the D-8 Youth Dialogue under the theme \u201cNavigating Uncertainty, Building Resilience.\u201d The event was held on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) at Majapahit Hall on the fifth floor of the ASEEC Building at UNAIR\u2019s Dharmawangsa-B Campus.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Yoga Uta Nugraha, S.T., M.T., a lecturer in Electrical Engineering at UNAIR\u2019s Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM), participated in a panel discussion titled \u201cEnergy Resilience in Uncertain Times.\u201d The session examined the challenges surrounding the global energy transition and explored opportunities for greater cooperation among D-8 member states.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eaa70339ee889da568a60e7a4f930470\"><strong>Energy transition and transportation challenges<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known professionally as Uta, the academic highlighted Indonesia\u2019s growing transportation demands, noting that the sector remains heavily reliant on fossil fuel-powered vehicles. He said this dependence continues to contribute to worsening air quality across many of the country\u2019s major urban centers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIndonesia has significant transportation needs. Reducing emissions from older vehicles that still dominate our roads is essential,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uta explained that vehicle conversion represents a critical strategy for lowering emissions. He emphasized that the shift toward electric mobility extends beyond replacing internal combustion engines, requiring broader changes to the energy ecosystem, including battery development and supporting infrastructure. He compared the transition to replacing a vehicle\u2019s primary energy source from fossil fuels with electricity.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also stressed the value of international cooperation in accelerating clean energy innovation. According to Uta, developing nations such as Indonesia should actively exchange expertise, technological advancements, and best practices through international forums such as the D-8.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7fc67f883be7de4ad61fb08d25670ef9\"><strong>Collaboration and role of youth<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uta further called for stronger research initiatives and greater academic collaboration across borders to address global energy challenges. He noted that the diverse conditions and experiences of different countries can help generate a wider range of innovative solutions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Young people, he added, have a pivotal role in advancing sustainable energy innovation. New ideas often emerge from open-minded thinking and a willingness to test unconventional approaches. \u201cEvery innovation has an impact. We need more discussion, research, and collaboration to develop energy solutions that are more efficient and environmentally responsible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also emphasized the need for a gradual and practical adoption of green technologies, including careful assessments of whether specific technologies are suitable for local conditions. \u201cEnergy will remain a cornerstone of the D-8\u2019s future.
