UNAIR NEWS 鈥 (UNAIR) has earned another notable international achievement through its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) and the Veterinary Medicine Study Program under the Faculty of Health and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA). UNAIR has been ranked in the Top 100 globally in the 2025 QS World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject, specifically in the field of Veterinary Science. FKH UNAIR is placed within the 51鈥100 bracket, making it the only veterinary program in Indonesia to reach this global standing.
Dean of FKH UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Mirni Lamid, MP, drh, expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, calling it a meaningful milestone for the faculty in 2025. 鈥淭his is a remarkable gift for FKH this year. We鈥檝e been preparing for this long in advance, so it鈥檚 not a sudden success. Every year, we evaluate our progress and work toward gaining international recognition,鈥 she said.
Strategic efforts behind the ranking
Prof. Lamid explained the key initiatives that contributed to this accomplishment. FKH has prioritized the development of academic talent through education, research, and community engagement. The faculty also operates the only livestock feed laboratory in Indonesia accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN), under its animal husbandry division. Other notable strengths include its contributions to One Health initiatives, reproductive biology, and veterinary clinical practice.
International collaboration has also played a critical role. FKH routinely partners with researchers from institutions abroad. 鈥淲e collaborate on research and co-authored publications with international academics. We also organize annual international seminars, inviting guest speakers who are part of our Academic Peer List (APL),鈥 Prof. Lamid noted.
She added that FKH鈥檚 strong H-index and excellent employer reputation helped boost its global ranking. Faculty members’ publications are widely cited, underscoring their global impact. FKH is also recognized for its implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, which attracts students from various universities to study for a full semester at UNAIR.
Looking ahead
In addition to leading nationally, FKH has also broken into the top three veterinary institutions in Asia. Prof. Lamid emphasized the importance of sustaining and improving this achievement. She highlighted that collaboration and unity are essential to reaching even greater heights. With continued cooperation, she hopes FKH can rise further in the Asian rankings and compete with top institutions in Europe and the United States.
鈥淲e will keep building partnerships in research, both domestically and internationally. In education, we鈥檒l continue updating our teaching models. We also plan to scale up our international research and community service efforts,鈥 she concluded.
